Recent publications
From an interview with RFK Jr. to a chess sculpture to a social worker shortage.
It has been quite a while, so I thought I would share a few recent publications that might be of interest. In no particular order:
I had a wide-ranging, nearly 40-minute call with Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for a JNS piece, which addressed his recent statement that critics have called antisemitic.
Also for JNS, some of my articles have addressed Jewish gladiators, a retiring Boston ballet dancer (who came back from a tough injury), a scandal at the Tel Aviv art museum, why Sarah Bernhardt is still “immortal” 100 years after her death, Martin Buber’s “I and Thou” at 100 and museums highlighting climate change and Impressionism.
I wrote about a prominently-located chess sculpture in Washington in “The Chess Players” in the May 2023 issue of Chess Life. A cartoon version appears in Chess Life Kids. (I have permission to post my article here; if you read it, please note the information about joining the U.S. Chess Federation and subscribing.)
My article “Perspective: Some thoughts on ‘thoughts and prayers’” appeared in Deseret News. Earlier in the year, Deseret News also published my article “Rescue efforts in Turkey put to rest a misconception about the Jewish Sabbath.”
My article “As demand for youth mental health services grows, the U.S. is facing a social worker shortage” appeared in Youth Today, a publication of the Center for Sustainable Journalism at Kennesaw State University.
I was honored to a reviewer of Ariel Blitz’s master’s thesis, “Bridging the Gap: The Jewish Museum and the Exploration of Identity Through Contemporary Art” at School of the Art Institute of Chicago. You can read the thesis here.
I will try to share these sorts of things in a more timely manner in the future.
I read the RFK piece yesterday in JNS and found it rather informative, and balanced. One takeaway is RFK, Jr appears much more articulate than some outlets present him. Also, his journey is certainly consistent with bold efforts of moving the needle for good (based on his presuppositions). Seems various outlets (US and international) would want to run your piece if they haven’t already.
You have certainly been busy! All these pieces look intriguing, and I am excited about catching up, starting at the top with the RFK piece. Good for you to get an interview with him!
